A Democrat endorsed the Republican in Michigan. The vote is tomorrow, and 53 million ballots are already in.

Haley Stevens stood with Mike Rogers in Detroit on Sunday, in one of the states that decides the Senate. Trump says Iran has one or two sites left and that he is in no hurry. Treasury tells markets today how much it will borrow, and Venezuelan TPS may return Friday.

The essentials in 30 seconds
  • Representative Haley Stevens, who lost Michigan's Democratic Senate primary, endorsed Republican Mike Rogers on November 1; El-Sayed led by about 4 points in the RealClearPolling average.
  • The UF Election Lab counted 53.14 million early votes by Sunday morning, against 46 million at the same point in 2022.
  • Trump said one or two Iranian sites remain and can be hit “in 10 minutes”; UKMTO logged another ship struck on Sunday.
  • Futures put December Fed hike odds at 70.4% on Friday, 16.6 points lower than Wednesday; Treasury's borrowing estimate comes at 3 p.m. today.

Haley Stevens lost the Democratic primary. Two days before the vote, she endorsed the Republican in Michigan.

On Sunday, Representative Haley Stevens, a Democrat, appeared with Republican Mike Rogers at a Detroit church and endorsed him for the Senate over her own party's nominee, Abdul El-Sayed. Trump praised the move at an Iowa rally. Michigan is one of the states expected to decide Senate control on Tuesday.

1,459,825Michigan ballots cast by Nov 1, per On Point
~4 ptsEl-Sayed lead, RealClearPolling average
35Senate seats on Tuesday's ballot

The problem, simply. The Senate has 100 seats. Republicans hold a narrow majority. On Tuesday, 35 seats are on the ballot, and Reuters, via RTÉ, describes Senate control as a toss-up that will likely be settled by a handful of states, including Michigan and Alaska. Michigan's seat is open. That makes every late shift there matter more than it would in a normal year.

A: the endorsement. On Sunday, November 1, Representative Haley Stevens, who lost the Democratic Senate primary to Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, appeared with former Representative Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee, at a church in Detroit and endorsed him. “I don't belong in Abdul's campaign,” Stevens said, according to RTÉ's Reuters and AFP report. Rogers called it “courage in politics in America today.” The move followed Stevens' demand that El-Sayed condemn an outside group's ad that blamed Israel for grocery prices.

B: the reaction. The same day, at a rally in Iowa, President Trump called the endorsement “a smart thing to do” and invited Stevens to join the Republican Party. He also called El-Sayed a “jihadist,” a claim RTÉ describes as false, and said El-Sayed “would destroy our country.” CNN and The Hill reported that Stevens' longtime chief of staff, Justin German, said many members of her team had resigned, including himself. The Daily could not confirm the resignations independently.

C: the numbers. The RealClearPolling average cited by RTÉ had El-Sayed ahead of Rogers by about 4 points before the endorsement. On Point Politics' forecast, updated October 31, shows a Democratic margin of 7.7 points but flags the race as having “no clear signal.” On Point, which compiles state election office counts, recorded 1,459,825 Michigan ballots cast by November 1. Sources disagree on Michigan's pace: Al Jazeera, citing AP, reports about 409,000 more early votes than at the same point in 2022, while On Point shows Michigan 10% behind its 2022 pace. Both can be partly right because they measure different cutoffs and coverage.

The national picture. The University of Florida Election Lab, cited by Al Jazeera, counted 53.14 million early votes by Sunday morning, November 1: about 29 million in person and 23 million by mail, out of roughly 210 million registered voters. In 2022 the comparable figure was 46 million. Al Jazeera's polling summary put Democrats at 51.5% and Republicans at 43.1% on the generic ballot two days out. The House is expected to lean Democratic; the Senate is the open question.

The names.Haley Stevens, U.S. Representative from Michigan, Democrat. Abdul El-Sayed, physician and Democratic Senate nominee. Mike Rogers, former U.S. Representative and Republican Senate nominee. Justin German, Stevens' longtime chief of staff. In Alaska, Senator Dan S. Sullivan, Republican, faces Mary Peltola, Democrat, with a third candidate, Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., on the ballot.

Why Alaska belongs in this story.A federal judge dismissed the Justice Department's lawsuit that sought to block certification of Alaska's result if Senator Sullivan narrowly loses, RTÉ reports. Justice had argued voters could be confused by the second Sullivan on the ballot. The New York Times reported that Peltola's campaign helped recruit Daniel J. Sullivan Jr.; Peltola and Sullivan Jr. both deny it. Governor Mike Dunleavy suggested he may not certify a Peltola win. Senator Sullivan says he will accept the results. No one has been charged with anything, and every person named is presumed innocent.

What Simón said

On October 30, 2026, Simón Levy published his Senate forecast at pronostico.simonlevy.mx: Republicans 53, Democrats 47, with Michigan Republican. He also forecast a Democratic House of 228 to 232 seats. Those calls stay on the Daily's scoreboard unchanged until AP or most networks project control of each chamber.

The Daily’s analysis

Sunday's endorsement does not settle Michigan, and it is not evidence for or against Simón's call. It moves the last 48 hours: it gives Rogers a Democratic voice in Detroit and gives El-Sayed a reason to mobilize. The measurable test comes Tuesday night, when Michigan's in-person Election Day vote is counted against the 1.46 million ballots already in.

The Latino vote and the issues.Al Jazeera reports that tariffs and the Iran war are weighing on Republicans, with the cost of living as voters' main concern. With gasoline above $4 a gallon nationally and oil above $100, the economy is the backdrop to every one of these races. In Michigan, home to the auto industry and to one of the country's largest Arab American communities, both tariffs and the Middle East are local issues, not foreign policy abstractions. That is why the Israel-related ad that triggered Stevens' break carried more weight in Detroit than it would elsewhere.

What the endorsement cannot do.More than 53 million Americans voted before Sunday. In Michigan, the 1.46 million ballots counted by On Point were cast before Stevens spoke. An endorsement two days out can only reach people who have not yet voted, and the most loyal partisans usually vote early. Its effect, if any, is on turnout and on late-deciding independents in suburban Detroit, the area Stevens represented in Congress.

What to watch.Polls in Michigan close at 8 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, with part of the state an hour later. Michigan's early ballots can be processed before Election Day under state law, which usually speeds the count. The Daily's election module above updates from AP data as results arrive.

The world from Washington

Iran, Hormuz and Israel.

02
The world from Washington · Iran

Trump says one or two Iranian sites are left, “in 10 minutes.” Bessent says shipping is back. The insurers' log disagrees.

Over the weekend the President named a suspected nuclear complex, said the war will end “one way or the other” and said he is in no hurry for a deal. Iran's negotiators spent a third day with Qatari mediators in Doha. Ships kept getting hit.
3 min readSimón Levy
81projectile strikes on ships since July 6, per UKMTO
144vessels redirected by the U.S. blockade, per CENTCOM
3straight days of Iran talks in Doha

The problem, simply. The United States and Israel went to war with Iran on February 28. Since then the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow exit from the Persian Gulf, has been the pressure point: Iran attacks or threatens ships, the United States blockades Iranian ports, and oil prices rise for everyone. Two questions decide the next weeks: will Washington strike again, and will a deal reopen the strait for good.

A: what Trump said.On Saturday, October 31, speaking to reporters at his Florida residence, the President said, per CBS and AFP: “We still have to take care of, I would say one or two sites, but we can do that in 10 minutes.” He named “Pickaxe Mountain” as a suspected underground nuclear complex. Iran denies nuclear work there. He said talks were “going fine” but that Iran is “not very reliable.” On Sunday, before his Iowa rally, he told Right Side Broadcasting: “We'll put it away very soon, one way or the other.” He also said he spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu on Saturday.

B: what Rubio said.At the G20 press conference in Atlanta on October 31, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said of new strikes: “He hasn't made a decision.” He added that Washington “would prefer to do it peacefully.” ABC reports the President has said strikes will not resume before the midterms. CBS reports he has hinted at action after the November 3 vote. Those two readings are compatible: they point to the same window, Wednesday onward.

C: what Iran did.Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said a new proposal with mediators would shorten the time to fully reopen the strait to two days, as the Daily reported Sunday. What is new: Iranian negotiators met Qatari mediators in Doha on Sunday for a third straight day, per Reuters via CBS. A top Iranian security official said Tehran received Vice President JD Vance's letter, per ABC. Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said on October 31 that “no new decision” had been made on Iran's nuclear doctrine and that he had not yet answered Vance. Araghchi said there are “no plans for meetings with American officials” until Washington accepts Iran's conditions.

The data that matters. On October 31, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted that transit levels are “back to pre-conflict levels minus Iranian barrels,” per CBS. CENTCOM says the blockade has redirected 144 vessels, up from 138 two weeks earlier. But UKMTO, the British maritime agency that logs attacks, reported another vessel struck by an unknown projectile on Sunday. The Qatari LNG carrier Al Mayeda, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company, was hit on Friday. The IRGC navy claimed two tankers hit mines on Sunday, per FatTail. UKMTO counts 81 projectile strikes on ships in the strait since July 6, 59 of them on the southern route.

Israel changes the math.Netanyahu's coalition lost its parliamentary majority in last week's elections, AP reports via CBS. Some Israelis fear he may want to attack Iran again before a new government forms. That gives Washington a second clock it does not control.

The Daily’s analysis

Two statements from the same administration now point in different directions. Bessent describes a strait that is working. The President describes a war with targets still open. Both can be true for a week. They cannot both hold if strikes resume, because the first casualty of new strikes would be the transit figure Treasury is citing. The Daily reads Wednesday, November 4, as the first realistic date for either a deal or strikes.

The Houthi front. On October 31, Saudi air defenses intercepted a hostile drone over the Riyadh region, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki said; he did not say who launched it. The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh told Americans to exercise extreme caution around airports amid ongoing Houthi attacks, Fox News reported.

Treasury borrowing and the Fed bet.

Economy · The Fed · Treasury

Treasury tells markets today how much it needs to borrow. Wall Street cut its bet on a December hike by 16.6 points in two days.

At 3 p.m. Eastern, Treasury publishes its borrowing estimate for the quarter, the first half of the refunding that ends Wednesday morning. By Friday's close, futures priced a 70.4% chance that the Fed raises rates on December 9, down from Wednesday. The jobs report lands Friday.
3 min readSimón Levy

-16.6 ptsdrop in hike odds since Oct 28
+55Kconsensus for October payrolls

The problem, simply. The government spends more than it collects, so Treasury borrows by selling bonds. Four times a year it tells markets how much it needs and in what mix. More long-term bonds usually means higher long-term rates, which means more expensive mortgages and business loans. At the same time, the Federal Reserve is weighing whether to raise its own rate again to fight inflation pushed up by $100 oil.

A: today's number. At 3 p.m. Eastern on Monday, November 2, Treasury releases its marketable borrowing estimates for the October to December quarter. On Wednesday, November 4, at 8:30 a.m., it publishes the quarterly refunding statement, with the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee's report. FatTail notes Bloomberg flagged a possible overhaul of auction sizes. Treasury has not published sizes in advance.

B: the Fed bet.According to FatTail's RateWatch, at 4:37 p.m. Eastern on Friday, October 30, futures implied a 70.4% chance of a 25 basis point hike at the December 9 meeting and a 29.6% chance of a hold. That was 16.6 points lower than on October 28. The current target range is 3.75% to 4.00%. Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan said on October 30 she sees a need for “at least two more hikes.” Cleveland's Beth Hammack and Richmond's Tom Barkin speak Thursday; New York's John Williams, Logan and St. Louis's Alberto Musalem on Friday.

C: the week's data.ISM manufacturing for October comes at 10 a.m. today and the Fed's Senior Loan Officer Survey at 2 p.m. Tuesday brings JOLTS and factory orders. Wednesday brings ADP, the trade balance and ISM services. Friday at 8:30 a.m. brings the October jobs report. Previews cited by FatTail put payrolls between 55,000 (CNBC) and 65,000 (Seeking Alpha), with unemployment at 4.2%. September's figure was 29,000.

Where markets stand. The S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,580.07, down 1.8%. The VIX closed at 19.42, up from 17.20 on Thursday, with an intraday high of 23.93. December WTI settled at $104.12. When futures reopened Sunday at 6 p.m. Eastern, December S&P e-minis traded at 7,641, up 0.35%, and WTI at $102.30, down 1.7%, per FatTail. Apple reports after the close today; AMD on Tuesday.

The names.Scott Bessent, Treasury Secretary. The Federal Open Market Committee meets December 8 and 9; its October 27 and 28 minutes come out November 18. Lorie Logan, Dallas Fed. Austan Goolsbee, Chicago Fed, speaks at 11:15 a.m. today.

The Daily’s analysis

The calendar is unusual: Treasury's plan, the election and the jobs report all land within four days. If Treasury leans on longer bonds while the market is cutting its hike bet, long-term yields can rise even if the Fed does nothing. That would be the opposite of what borrowers expect after a softer jobs number. Watch the 10-year on Wednesday morning, not Tuesday night.

Why the hike bet fell.FatTail does not attribute the 16.6 point drop to a single cause. It coincided with Friday's sell-off: the S&P 500's 1.8% fall and a VIX jump of more than two points. When stocks fall sharply, traders often price a more cautious Fed. Logan's comment the same day pointed the other way, which is why the remaining 70.4% still dominates.

Abroad.Australia's central bank decides Tuesday; Sweden's Riksbank and Brazil's central bank on Wednesday; the Bank of England, Norway and Banxico on Thursday, along with Canada's federal budget, per FatTail.

The Americas

Venezuela, TPS and U.S. diplomacy in the region.

The Americas · Venezuela · Immigration

Plaintiffs say Venezuelan TPS comes back on Friday. Unless the Supreme Court steps in, it lands three days after the vote.

The Ninth Circuit on October 30 denied the government's request to pause a ruling that restores Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans, according to the plaintiffs. Washington's diplomats, meanwhile, fan out across the region this week, from Colombia and Peru to Ecuador and Panama.
3 min readSimón Levy
Nov 6date plaintiffs say Venezuelan TPS returns
26-48Supreme Court docket, Mullin v. National TPS Alliance
Apr 1OFAC delisted Delcy Rodríguez

The problem, simply.Temporary Protected Status lets people from countries in crisis live and work in the United States without fear of deportation. The administration moved to end it for Venezuelans. Courts have gone back and forth. For hundreds of thousands of families, the question is whether they can keep working legally next week.

A: the latest ruling.According to the plaintiffs, as reported by The Rio Times on November 2, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday, October 30, denied the government's request to stay a lower court's order. The plaintiffs say Venezuelan protections return on Friday, November 6, unless the Supreme Court intervenes. The Rio Times said it did not read the order itself, and neither could the Daily. That is why this story is attributed, not asserted.

B: how we got here.On October 5, the Supreme Court vacated an earlier Ninth Circuit ruling in the case, docket 26-48, Mullin v. National TPS Alliance. The litigation began in 2025, when Judge Edward M. Chen of the Northern District of California ruled the termination unlawful, a decision the Ninth Circuit declined to pause in September 2025 in case 25-5724. Estimates of how many people are covered have ranged from 350,000 to more than 600,000, depending on which designation is counted. The Daily does not publish a single figure without the current USCIS count.

C: the diplomatic track. The State Department's public schedule for today lists one event for Secretary Rubio: a 10 a.m. meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Oliver Blanco. According to State, U.S. forces took Nicolás Maduro into custody on January 3. OFAC removed acting president Delcy Rodríguez from its sanctions list on April 1. The meeting itself is covered in depth by our Brazil and Latin America edition.

The rest of the week in the hemisphere.Under Secretary for Arms Control Thomas G. DiNanno travels to Colombia and Peru from November 1 to 7. Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Cartwright Weiland is in Ecuador from November 2 to 7. Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers is in Panama, El Salvador, Mexico and Florida through November 4. In Colombia, President Abelardo de la Espriella, in office since August 7, signed two arrangements with Washington on critical minerals and civil nuclear power during Rubio's September 8 visit to Barranquilla.

The names.Marco Rubio, Secretary of State. Oliver Blanco, Venezuelan Foreign Minister. Delcy Rodríguez, acting president of Venezuela. Edward M. Chen, U.S. District Judge. Thomas G. DiNanno, Cartwright Weiland and Sarah Rogers, State Department officials.

The Daily’s analysis

The timing is political even if the courts are not. A protection that returns on November 6 returns after the votes are counted. If the government asks the Supreme Court for an emergency stay this week, the filing will come in the same days as the result. Venezuelan-American voters in Florida are watching both.

Why it matters beyond Venezuela.TPS is the legal status that most directly connects U.S. foreign policy to U.S. workplaces. A country designation is a foreign policy judgment that conditions are too dangerous to return; its termination is a judgment that they are not. When the same government delists Venezuela's acting leader and argues in court that Venezuelans can safely go home, employers in Florida, Texas and elsewhere are left to plan around a court calendar.

What to watch.Any emergency application by the Solicitor General to the Supreme Court before Friday, and any USCIS notice in the Federal Register on Venezuelan TPS validity.

What I saySimón Levy · Brazil, Washington and Mexico

Lula won the election? He will not be able to govern.

The wedge nobody is watching: Flávio in the United States, a hostile Congress, a Treasury door swinging shut, and an impeachment being prepared from January.
7 min readSimón Levy
4,430,191vote margin in the runoff
286House seats held by the bloc that backed Flávio
42 to 34Senate vote rejecting Lula’s Supreme Court pick

On Friday, October 30, Flávio Bolsonaro went live from the United States. He said he had not left Brazil, he had left for Brazil. And he dropped a line almost nobody in Brasília wanted to hear: that Lula could fall much sooner than people imagine.

This piece is about that line. About why Washington took in a defeated candidate in three days. Why Lula won the election and lost Congress. What gets blocked. How an impeachment is built in Brazil. And why the US Treasury is going to separate Brazil from Mexico, from the São Paulo Forum and from Iran.

Friday: three days in Miami and a new script.

On Wednesday, October 28, at 9:30 a.m., a private jet landed at Opa-locka Executive Airport in Miami. Flávio Bolsonaro, his wife and their two daughters stepped off.

Washington did not hide it. On Tuesday, before the crossing, a senior State Department official announced that the United States would issue visas to Flávio and his family. According to Customs and Border Protection records cited by Estadão, G1 and O Globo, he entered on a one-year humanitarian parole. And according to The New York Times, citing government sources, Donald Trump made sure he could leave Brazil and enter the United States.

In Brazil there is no arrest warrant, no extradition request, no Interpol red notice. There are requests from PT lawmakers that nobody has ruled on. The Federal Police said that failing to hand over a passport does not, by itself, make him a fugitive. He is under investigation for money laundering and tax evasion in cases tied to the INSS pension deductions and Banco Master. He denies it, and he is presumed innocent.

Now the important part. On Wednesday, Flávio published a letter presenting himself as Brazil's true president-elect. Three or four versions circulated. The last one no longer said president-elect. It said leader of Brazil. I can confirm that officials tied to the State Department asked him to drop that word. UOL confirmed it later.

I did not leave Brazil. I left for Brazil.Flávio Bolsonaro, letter of October 28

On Friday the 30th the shift was complete. In an Instagram live, no stage and no guests, he said four things. That he made the decision to leave with his wife, without anyone knowing. That nobody is responsible for his departure. That from outside he can be "an even more active voice" for those who voted for him. And that, if needed, he will run for president again, because Lula's economic problems could bring him down "much sooner than many people imagine." He talked about impeachment and an election before 2030. And he backed Rogério Marinho to lead the Senate.

Simón Levy’s reading

That is the real reason for his appearance. Washington cannot host a self-proclaimed president, because that means breaking with Brazil. It can host the leader of the opposition. On Friday, Flávio stopped being the president-elect nobody recognizes and became the opposition leader nobody can touch.

Simón Levy, “The Wedge: What Comes Next for Brazil,” lacuna.simonlevy.mx/en and Patreon, November 2, 2026.

Sunday: two hours half of Brazil will not forgive.

First, the context. In the first round, on October 4, Flávio won: 47.03% to Lula's 45.16%. He went into the runoff as the frontrunner.

On Sunday, midway through the day, the PT asked to extend voting over transportation problems in Bahia, one of its strongholds. Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin granted it and extended voting by two hours, until 7 p.m., nationwide. Zanin was Lula's personal lawyer until 2023, when Lula appointed him to the Court. Flávio's campaign also asked for two more hours that day, but only in 17 municipalities in São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina. Then came what set everything off: the Superior Electoral Court paused the count.

When it resumed, Lula had won. 64,256,232 votes to 59,826,041. That is 51.79% to 48.21%. A margin of 4,430,191 votes.

That night Flávio said he would not accept the rules being changed mid-game, and promised to seek an annulment. His legal argument cites Article 220 of the Electoral Code and about 34,000 votes cast after 5 p.m.

Now I will say what has to be said, because if I do not, it will be used against me. The Court's president, Nunes Marques, appointed by Jair Bolsonaro, said the vote took place with absolute normality. The Court denied removing PL observers from the counting room. Rogério Marinho admitted he has no proof. Tarcísio de Freitas said the election is over. The PL accepted the result. And the math weighs: 34,000 late votes do not explain a 4.4 million margin.

Simón Levy’s reading

So nothing happened? Something worse than proven fraud happened. A justice appointed by Lula, who used to be his lawyer, changed the hours of the election on election day, at the request of Lula's party, across the entire country. Maybe no court annuls anything. It does not have to. Half the nation believes the referee played, and in politics that belief charges interest. Congress will collect it.

My read: Brazil makes the same mistake as Mexico. It confuses the vote with democracy. Winning an election is not a license to govern without checks. When a government wins at the ballot box and the court finishes tilting the field, that has a name: electoral autocracy. In Mexico we lived it with the judicial overhaul. The difference is that in Brazil, the last check left standing just got bigger.

Congress: Lula won the presidency and lost Congress.

While everyone watched the runoff, the election that defines Brazil's next government had already happened. It was October 4, when Congress was elected.

The Liberal Party, the Bolsonaros' party, will have 121 deputies from February. The PT, 70; with its federation, 88. In the Senate, the PL will have 28 or 29 of 81 seats, depending on how alternates settle. The PT, 9 or 10.

Now let us add it up the way Brasília does. The parties that backed Flávio in the runoff (PL, União, PP, Republicanos, Podemos and Novo) hold 286 deputies and 50 senators. The entire left (the PT federation, PSB, PSOL-Rede and PDT) holds 124 deputies and about 15 senators. In between sit 103 deputies and 16 senators: the center, led by the PSD and the MDB.

Try it with the center at zero. In the House, Flávio's bloc is 56 votes short of opening an impeachment against Lula. In the Senate it is only 4 short of removing him. And on its own it already has more than the 49 votes needed to amend the Constitution and more than the 41 that are enough to shut Lula out of the Supreme Court.

That last point is not theory. On April 29, 2026, the Senate rejected Jorge Messias, Lula's Supreme Court nominee, 42 to 34. It had not happened since 1894. The seat Luís Roberto Barroso left has been empty since October 2025.

A warning, because numbers deceive. The simulator assumes Flávio's bloc votes as one. It does not. On October 27, União and PP left the PL's Senate candidate alone and backed Davi Alcolumbre. MDB, Republicanos, União and PSD congratulated Lula. The centrão belongs to no one. It is for rent. And that leads to the question nobody is asking.

The wedge: Washington does not fight Brazil over one man.

The United States has trade, the Amazon, the G20 and half a continent at stake with Brazil. And still, in under 72 hours, it opened the door to a defeated candidate who left with his passports cancelled on Supreme Court orders.

It paid the price in public. Lula said the Bolsonaros' first home is the United States, where they live licking American boots. Twenty-five Democratic members of Congress sent Marco Rubio fifteen questions and gave him until November 13 to answer. Brazil's foreign ministry is weighing a delay in approving the new US ambassador. Washington did not flinch.

On Saturday the 31st in Atlanta, closing the G20 foreign ministers' meeting, Marco Rubio was asked whether his government had anything to do with Flávio's departure. He answered that the US government "was not involved directly." And he added: "He had previously held a visa, and the president made a decision to allow him to enter the country." Look at the word. He did not say no. He said not directly. The New York Times reported that the plane was chartered by Jason Miller, a Trump adviser, and the airline's owner told AFP that an intermediary paid for the flight from a US bank account.

The rest is in the full analysis: why Rubio could not say yes, the catalog of 18 things Lula will not be able to do, how the impeachment is built from January, OFAC, Mexico, Iran, Argentina, the Shield of the Americas and six signed forecasts, with the full podcast.

Flávio Bolsonaro is under investigation in Brazil and denies wrongdoing; he is presumed innocent. The pending electoral actions against the Lula-Alckmin ticket are not a ruling.

Health and longevity

What the evidence says, at three levels.

06
Health and longevity · Alzheimer's · Peptides

Researchers found a four-amino-acid peptide in human blood. People with cognitive impairment had less of it. That is not a cure, and it is not for sale.

A study in PNAS Nexus, covered October 20 and updated October 30, reports that a tiny peptide called HAEE blocks a zinc-binding site on amyloid-beta and helped in mice. The same molecule circulates naturally in people, and levels were lower in those with cognitive impairment.

The problem, simply.Alzheimer's disease slowly destroys memory. One of its hallmarks is amyloid-beta, a protein fragment that clumps into plaques in the brain. Zinc can help it clump. For decades, drugs aimed at removing amyloid mostly failed, and the few approved ones offer modest benefit with real risks. Researchers keep looking for what makes some brains vulnerable and others not.

A: the study. The paper, by A. T. Kopylov and colleagues, including Sergey A. Kozin, appears in PNAS Nexus (2026, volume 5, issue 10, pgag320; DOI 10.1093/pnasnexus/pgag320). News-Medical reported it on October 20 and updated its coverage on October 30. The molecule is a tetrapeptide, a chain of four amino acids, written Ac-His-Ala-Glu-Glu-NH2 and called HAEE. It binds to the zinc-binding site on single amyloid-beta molecules, which may stop them from clumping.

B: what was found. In mice, HAEE showed a protective effect, according to the coverage. In humans, the researchers report that HAEE circulates naturally in the blood, and that levels were lower in people with cognitive impairment. They also report that amyloid-beta levels in blood did not differ between Alzheimer's patients and healthy people. The secondary coverage does not give sample sizes or confidence intervals; the Daily lists that as a gap rather than guess.

C: three levels of evidence.Shown in animals: HAEE helped in mouse experiments. Observed in humans, as an association: lower blood HAEE in cognitively impaired people. An association does not prove cause, because the disease itself could lower the peptide. Not shown at all: that giving HAEE to people prevents or slows Alzheimer's, that it is safe in humans, or that a blood HAEE test predicts who will get sick. The authors suggest HAEE deficiency “may be a cause” and that blood HAEE could serve as a biomarker. Both are hypotheses to test.

Regulatory status.HAEE is not approved by the FDA for any use. It is not a dietary supplement and is not a prescription drug. Products sold online as research peptides are not approved for human use, and their contents are not verified. The Daily gives no doses and does not suggest anyone take it.

The names.A. T. Kopylov, first listed author; Sergey A. Kozin, named in the coverage as a lead researcher. Their institutions were not listed in the coverage the Daily read; the Daily will add them once confirmed from the paper.

The Daily’s analysis

This is the kind of finding that becomes a product before it becomes medicine. A short peptide is cheap to synthesize, and “found naturally in your blood” is an easy sales line. The useful part for readers is the opposite: a possible blood marker that, if validated, could flag risk years earlier. That is a test to wait for, not a vial to buy.

What to ask your doctor.Whether you are a candidate for one of the blood tests for Alzheimer's markers now used in specialist clinics; how your blood pressure, hearing, sleep and physical activity are affecting your brain health; and whether a clinical trial near you is recruiting. Clinicaltrials.gov lists trials by condition and location. None of those questions requires buying anything.

Freshness note. The newest primary research we could verify this weekend in this field was this paper; the coverage was updated October 30. We chose it over newer releases that lacked a named journal or study design.

What nobody connected

The two states that decide the Senate both have a second name on the story.

Reuters, via RTÉ, says Senate control likely rests on a handful of states, including Michigan and Alaska.

In Michigan, the second name is Haley Stevens, a Democrat who lost the primary and on Sunday endorsed the Republican.

In Alaska, it is Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a second Sullivan on the ballot, whom the New York Times reported Peltola's campaign helped recruit. Both deny it. A federal judge dismissed the Justice Department's suit over him.

Together, Michigan's 1,459,825 early ballots, per On Point, and Alaska's three-way ballot mean the Senate may be decided less by the nominees than by the people standing next to them. The connection is the Daily's analysis. Everyone named is presumed innocent.
